2010 Annual General Meeting
The 28th AGM of MEMRLTA Inc was held on Tuesday 22nd June 2010.
Proposed Amendments to By-Laws
There were threee proposed amendments to MEMRLTA's By-Laws that were presented for voting at the AGM:
Proposed amendment to By-Law 11(f)
The following amendment, submitted by the Executive Committee, was passed (deletion in bold):
BY-LAW 11(f)
( 2009-2010 Rules, By-laws & Fixtures book page 35):
Deletion of the words "…or
by listening to radio station Fox FM-101.9MHz."
The Executive Committee’s supporting statement: The radio station does not give enough specific locations for Clubs to sensibly make a decision about the current temperature at their particular location. The Weather Bureau gives specific locations such as Melbourne city, Scoresby, Viewbank, Moorabbin, Mt Dandenong, etc.
Proposed amendment to By-Law 11(f)
The following amendment, submitted by Holy Saviour Tennis Club, was not passed (alteration in bold type):
BY-LAW
11(f ) (2009-2010 Rules, By-laws & Fixtures book page 35):
"If the temperature reaches 30°C at
the appointed starting time or at any time thereafter, play may be stopped at the option of either captain…"
Holy Saviour’s supporting statement: The issue of Heat-outs is significant to quite a few of the Mid-week Ladies, with a number of them electing not to play the Summer season. It is of concern that players may be lost from a range of clubs due to this issue, so it is timely and reasonable to raise this Motion to alter this By-Law.
The Executive Committee feels that if this amendment passes then there will not be as much tennis played during the Summer season. If all teams arrived at the courts to actually start the hit-up at 9.30 am and if they spent less time at morning tea between sets, then the summer temperature could stay at 32° C for a Heat-out.
Proposed amendment to By-Law 15(e)
The following amendment, submitted by Glen Waverley Tennis Club, was passed (alteration in bold):
BY-LAW 15
(e) (2009-2010 Rules, By-laws & Fixtures book page 37):
Semi and Grand Final matches to commence at 10.00am
in the Winter and 9.30am in the Summer.
Glen Waverley’s supporting statement is that the heat in the middle of the day in summer can be intense, making it difficult for players and for umpires, who have to stand for long periods in the hot sun. Starting play half an hour earlier can make all the difference, especially as it is predicted that the summers are going to become hotter in the future.
